The Swede,

So glad you found the tips helpful. There is NOTHING like playing on cockpit view with a large screen in front of you...total adrenaline rush. Thanks for the tip on PCars. I'll make sure I post that out to my Twitter and Facebook followers.

Have fun racing,

Jason,

Awesome to hear. I am so happy to hear he loves the wheel. I have responded to his comment and pointed him to some other articles I have on the blog that should answer his questions.

Hey Ryan,

Thanks for the comment and I am so happy to hear that you love the wheel. Drifting with a wheel takes a lot of practice and has much more to do with the tune of the car than the wheel settings. I will point you to a few articles I have here on my blog:

Forza 6 Drifting Guide for Beginners

Forza 6 Wheel settings (if you are focused on drifting, set rotation to anything you like over 540 degrees)

Forza Horizon 3 settings - I have not updated this since the new patch and settings took place in late December, so it is out of date

Faster Lap Times in Forza 6
- Lots of driving tips to get faster without tuning.

Thanks very much James. Your advice was extremely helpful and I decided to buy the Logitech wheel. I gave the G920 to my son this morning and he loves it!! If you don't mind answering one more question, my son asked me to ask you how to adjust the settings for both Forza 6 and Forza Horizon 3 so he can slide.

Thanks again,

Hey James,

Just following up on my dads question. I ended up buying the Logitech G920. I love it. The only thing is that I can't slide like I can with the controller. I would just like to know the settings you use for Forza 6 and Forza Horizon 3.

Thanks,

Hey Jason,

Well for a few quick comparisons to add clarity. The Thrustmaster pedals have a higher bit resolution which makes them more precise. You can also adjust the pressure force on the brake (if you get the leather edition). The TX wheelbase has a dual belt drive with a brushless motor so it provides slightly stronger and quieter force feedback plus the motor is more efficient. All of these things make for a more high end racing experience with a better feel for the car and the road...Also it makes the price alot more! At the end of the day the G920 is still solid in its own right and while it doesn't offer the same feel as the TX, it comes at a much more consumer friendly price.

To the casual gamer you probably can't tell and feel the difference the same way I can, but I have spent significant amounts of time on both of these wheels. I've ran thousands of laps, plus I have actually taken them apart to look at the internal mechanics to see how they work while racing.

I think the question is how serious do you think your son is going to be about racing. I clearly have a problem and I can't get enough...HAHAHHAHA! There are tons and tons of people who swear by the Logitech G920 and it is a BEST SELLER on Amazon for a reason. For how much you think your son is going to race it still might be a good choice for him.

Hope that is helpful,
James

FYI: If you do get the G920, when you first get it the brake pedal is going to be really stiff. It takes a little while to brake it in.

Thanks very much James. I really appreciate the quick reply.

You said the Thrustmaster is better in many capabilities. Does it therefore make sense to wait and save more money to buy that wheel? I don't want to buy the Logitech just to save money and in 6 months time say I should have waited and bought the better product.

Thanks again,

In reply to Jason.

Hey Jason,

Based on your scenario I think the Logitech G920 is a fine choice. Sure the Thrustmaster TX is better in many capabilities, but the G920 is still a great wheel. It is very popular among Xbox racers. I like the G920 based on two things you said: He races a few times a week and you have no intention or uprgrading. I think because you have to pay extra money its best to stay conservative and you are still getting a solid product that will be immersive, improve lap times, and be a lot of fun.

Logitech also comes with a 2 year warranty where Thrustmaster only has 1 year. As far as an extended warranty I typically don't do them, but thats a judgement call you need to make. Its certainly a lot of money for the wheel and if it gives you piece of mind than maybe its for you. I found this article here on when it makes sense to buy an extended warranty. I can tell you that I have owned 3 Logitech wheels since 2011: G27, G29, and a G920 and all of them have them still work great to this day.

Every once in awhile I get someone on my blog email me about an issue with a G920, but its always something right out of the box, so they can return it and get a new one. I can't think of a time when anyone has emailed me to say their G920 stopped working. Ive had mine since around May/June of 2015 and its still going strong.

Hope that answers your questions. Let me know if there is any more info I can provide.

Hi James. I'm buying a racing wheel for my 15 year old son who is a car fanatic who plays on his X-Box One two to three times a week. I'm deciding between the Logitech G920 and Thrustmaster TX Leather Edition. I have read both of your product reviews on these two steering wheels and they are great - thanks.

I live in Toronto, Canada and therefore paying CDN dollars and we also have to pay 13% taxes. The Logitech G920 is on sale for CDN $350 + 13% tax (regular price is CDN $500) and taxesthe Thrustmaster TX Leather Edition is CDN $515 + 13% tax.

Based on your reviews, and if I had unlimited funds, I would definitely buy the Thrustmaster. But I don't so my question is whether you think it's worth paying an extra $187 ($165 + 13% taxes) for the Thrustmaster? Will the Thrustmaster be more durable and last longer or will the Logitech be good enough for my son? It is unlikely that my son will upgrade any of the components on the Thrustmaster but from your reviews, it sounds like the steering wheel and the pedals are both better quality and also more responsive so that's what the extra cost will be paying for in this situation.

My second question is whether you think I should buy the 3 year extended warranty (from the retailer) for $70 for either wheel? The retailer will either repair or replace the steering wheel for three years if it breaks.

Thanks,
Jason
