The G27 is built like a tank and comes standard with a 3 pedal set, force feedback, an 11 inch leather wrapped rim, and 6 speed manual shifter with a push in reverse. This steering wheel delivers a great racing experience and continues to be a popular mid priced racing wheel.

Logitech has been making gaming steering wheels and gaming peripherals for a long time, but this by far is one of their BEST items ever. Even despite the fact they have released newer racing wheels like the G29 for PS4 and the G920 for Xbox One, the G27 still holds it’s own as the classic racing wheel model that all new products get compared against.

What makes the G27 really standout against the new products is that comes standard with a 3 pedal set and a shifter, while none of the newer racing wheels offer that for the price of the G27.

Lets review the specs on the G27…

Pros vs. Cons

Pros:

Force feedback motor is smooth and accurate
Does a good job of simulating traction loss
The RPM light integrates with racing games and tells you when to shift
Leather wrapped rim feels like its from a high performance sports car
Steel plates on the pedal faces
Comes standard with 3 pedals and a shifter

Cons:

Pedals are 8 bit resolution and leaves a bit to be desired in accuracy
The paddle shifters are ok but a downgrade from the Logitech G25
The clutch pedal has a large amount of throw (need to press all the way down to engage
The push in reverse, would be better as a 7th gear

G27 Compatibility

Playstation

Alot of people as if this Racing wheel is compatible with the PS4 and Xbox One. Natively it is not…meaning you can just hook it up to the new consoles and race. To use the Logitech G27 with a new console you need an adapter like the CronusMax in order to make the wheel work. The only draw back to using an adapter is that the force feedback will no longer work, but the wheel itself will work with the game.

My personal advise if you own a G27, then perhaps an adapter is worth it. If you are are purchasing a G27 for the Xbox One or PS4, its much better to get the new models G29 for PS4 or the G920 for Xbox One.

I do think the Logitech G27 is still a solid choice though for PS3 and PC.

Mounting The Racing Wheel

While the G27 does have two clamps on the front of the wheel base for mounting on a table or desk, there are better options for wheel mounting. Most of the big name brands of racing seats and wheel stands support the Logitech G27 simply because it is one of the best selling wheels of all time.

For a racing seat you can checkout the Play Seat Evolution and the Open Wheeler Racing Seat, which come pre drilled with mounting holes for the G27. If you are in the market for a wheel stand then the Wheel Stand Pro is the best choice in my opinion.

This steering wheel is one of the most well reviewed and popular wheels on Amazon with over 1200 reviews, a 4.5 star rating, and a listing on Amazon’s best seller list. There are many sim racers who regard the Logitech G27 as one of the best racing wheels of all time because of it’s force feedback and excellent price point.There have been a lot of wheels that have hit the market since the release of the Logitech G27, but this wheel continues to sell despite the fact that it does not work natively on the PS$ or Xbox One.

My Review of the Logitech G27

Overall I think the Logitech G27 is still a great wheel even though it was released in 2009.

I recently played Project Cars on the PC with a G27 and it was great. The force feedback was smooth, quiet, and strong.

While I did find there to be a lot of throw in the clutch, I thought the pedals felt pretty good and the brake did a decent job of simulating brake pressure. For me the shifter leaves a bit to be desired, but the wheel itself is what makes the G27 so special. Simply put the wheel rim and motor that power this racing wheel are were all of the value lies in the Logitech G27.

Compared to the newer releases from Logitech I think the G27 holds it’s own. If you are looking for a wheel for your PC or a Playstation 3, the G27 is still a solid go to wheel for sim racers looking for a mid priced option.

This racing seat overall is a popular option on the market no matter if you race Playstation 4 Playstation 3, Playstation 2, Playstation 1, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Xbox, Nintendo Wii, Nintendo Game Cube, N64, Sega or PC. They do a really good job of accommodating all of the different wheels by making special mounting plates and offering different versions of the seat depending on your need.

Able To Make Fine Adjustments For Comfort

This seat was engineered with the racer in mind. Nobody wants to play a racing game and get up with a sore back or stiff legs. They designed this seat so you can fit it to your body and play your racing games for hours at a time.

I would say that anyone between 4’5 and 6’8 would fit comfortably in this seat. There is no wait limit listed, but given my experience with reviewing racing seats, I would say no more than a 275 lb person should use this seat.

While this seat doesn’t pack up very compact, it does however have a neat feature. It has wheels you can attach to the front under the pedals so you can lift up the back of the chair and easily push it around. This makes it very easy to move to a storage room or walk in closet.

This seat also has the option to add on a lumbar support pad. This will help make your back more comfortable for longer hours or make the chair more suitable if you already have a bad back. This is one of the only cockpit chairs that offers a lumbar support pad made for the chair.

Gear Shifter Mount

Depending on which version of the seat you buy, they don’t all come with the gear sifter mount. If you don’t have a shifter now and want to add on later, you can get the gearbox mount separate.

One of the best deign features of the mount is that it can be mounted on the left or right side of the seat frame and you can move it towards or away from the seat.

The OpenWheeler Advanced is definitely a great racing seat. It is one of the most comfortable sim racing chairs on the market. It is priced competitively and I would rate it as one of the best in it’s class. The three things that stand out most to me about this seat: comfort, stability, and the color options.

Logitech Racing Wheels

This is not the first wheel made by Logitech (they have been making wheels for years), but the G29 is the first steering wheel they have made for PlayStation 4 compatibility. The other wheel they made recently was the G920 for the Xbox One.

6 years ago Logitech proclaimed they were done with racing peripherals. This wheel is a follow up to the Logitech G27 wheel, which is one of the highest rated and best selling steering wheels on Amazon (4.5 stars and 1200 customer reviews).

Let’s get into the Logitech G29 Driving Force Steering Wheel. This is a mid to high end driving wheel for anyone looking for a simulated and immersive racing experience. The price point is set competitively based on the features and other similar racing wheels on the market.

G29 Specs:

3 Stainless Steel pedals (gas, brake, clutch), Hand stitched leather wheel, duel motor force feedback, semi- automatic paddle shifters, d-pad and on wheel controls, and helical gearing.

What you get in the box is the wheel and pedals, a USB power supply, and the user manuals.

Similar To The G27 Steering Wheel

The wheel itself looks completely different than the G27 and of course it doesn’t have the shifter, but pedal set feels exactly like the Logitech G27. Truth be told the brake pedal is much improved over the G27 version. If you ever owned or played with a Logitech G27, then this wheel offers a similar experience with quality and build.

You can actually use a G27 shifter with this wheel (the shifter will work correctly, but the buttons will be disabled).

Mounting The Wheel

The G29 comes standard with table clamps for securing your wheel to a table or desk. The only downside to desk clamping is that there is nothing to help your pedals in place. The G29 pedals do hold pretty well on a carpet, but mounting on a cockpit or wheel stand is a much better solution.

Logitech G29 Review- Wrap up

While the G29 has it’s flaws especially compared to the G920 for Xbox One, this is a decent racing wheel. The one thing that stood out to me is how quite and smooth this wheel is. The Logitech G29 has been heavily reviewed at Amazon and you can see in the G29 reviews below consumers rate it well.

I think the wheel delivers a pretty good simulation experience. I personally think it could feature a bit heavier force feedback and the pedals should be more responsive, but that is my personal preference. I think what bothers meet most about this wheel are the looks, I prefer a wheel that is more of a replica style. The hand stitched leather is a nice touch and feels like a high performance racing wheel in your hands…just doesn’t look like one. The nice thing about this set is that comes standard with 3 pedals and you can also pick up the add on shifter.

Logitech has announced though there will be no additional peripherals made for the G29 driving wheels though.

If you are in the market for your first racing wheel for the Playstation then the G29 will make you never want to play with a controller again. I rate this wheel at a solid 3.5 may be even a 3.7.
