Quality Materials

This wheel stand is built from steel box tubing and has beautiful powder coated Gloss Black Paint. It weighs about 26 lbs (12 kg) and is extremely stable both when a wheel is mounted and when it is removed. The stand comes with 4 Non slip Rubber Pad Protectors that are removable. These are best for use on on floarboards and tiles.

The unit is extremely solid (with and without the rubber slip pads) and feels like you can put a beating on it and it will survive. You can feel confident strapping on your expensive racing wheel to this stand.

Great Design and Assembles Easily

I was able to put this together in about 30 minutes (including unboxing) without looking at the instructions. All you need to do undo the two knobs and lift the twin spar section to the angle you want (two angle options) then insert and re-tighten the knobs. Last, just loosen two knobs on the top of the twin spars and set the wheelbase to the height you want, then re-tighten the knobs.

If you are taking it out from storage and already have it assembled it takes less than 3 minutes to unfold it sand start racing.

Folds Up Easy and Quickly for Storage

The GT Omega Wheel Stand is a great choice if you are limited on space. The unit folds up quickly with the turn of a few knobs and reduces to a shockingly compact size. You can even leave your pedals and wheel base hooked up when you fold it up. Then just carry it to your closet or storage room where it won’t be in the way. Good Bye Table Clamps, Pre-Drilled Holes for Hard Mounting

Not trying to hate on table clamps, but they are not the most stable racing wheel mounting solution. Hard mounting your wheel is significantly better than table clamping to a desk because a clamp constantly needs to be re-tightened. How much did Fanatec downgrade the ClubSport V2’s? and…How does it compare against against the Thrustmaster TX?

By the end of this review I will have both of these questions answered as well as whether or not the Fanatec CSL Elite bundle is worth a look for racing on your XBox One console.

Fanatec CSL Elite Steering Wheel and Pedals Review

The CSL Elite is the second bundle offering from Fanatec, the first is ClubSport V2 a super high end wheelbase, rim and pedal set, goes for a whopping $1,400. The CSL Elite offers a mid tier option with a wheel, rim, and pedal set for $640. So the CSL bundle costs 55% less the V2 bundle, but it is not 55% less of product…

Unboxing, First Impressions, and Video Review

While I mainly focus on this bundles ability to deliver a quality racing experience on the Xbox 1, it is also compatible on the PC which I did not test. I ran all of my testing with Forza Motorsport 6 and Assetto Corsa on the X Box One console

Lets break down and review each piece of the bundle.

CSL Wheelbase Review for Xbox One

Specs

1080 degrees of rotation, Rev lights (which don’t currently function on Xbox One), brushless servo motor, quick release system, single belt drive, 1080 degrees of rotation, 2 shifter ports, a pedal port, a handbrake port, mode putton for switching between Xbox One and PC, a power button, upgradeable firmware, and a table clamp.

Good Quality and Durability

The CSL wheel base is encased in plastic with a nicely designed front cover. While the plastic feels thin and inexpensive it does the job for protecting the wheel motor and at this price point you can’t expect the same aluminum encasing on the ClubSport V2.

The wheel base is fairly heavy and has a nicely machined metal mechanism for connecting your steering wheel rim.

There is a vent on the back of the wheel base (pictured above) and two slits on the top to push air out when the fan is running to prevent the motor from overheating.

After racing for an hour or two I was surprised at how loud the fan was and how long it stayed on. The wheel base itself stayed very cool, but It makes me wonder about how long the fan inside is going to last if it is under duress. While I did not see any performance issues it’s certainly something I will keep my eyes on.

Great Force Feedback and Decent Vibration on the Xbox

The force feedback is strong and smooth and you can tell that there is quality technology inside. Overall the motor does a great job of simulating the traction forces through cornering and gives off a nice feel of how your car is performing. I would say that you get 80% of the feedback strength of the Fanatec V2, 15% stronger than the Thrustmaster TX, and 25% stronger than the Logitech G920.

Although force feedback was fantastic there were instances when cornering at high speeds I felt the wheel didn’t return to center the way I felt it should. It’s not that it didn’t rotate back, but on a wheel like the Thrustmaster TX the wheel snaps back on you to center just as it would in a real car in certain situations/

The movement of the wheel while smooth didnt always feel natural, which was especially noticeable is Assetto Corsa. The best way I can describe it is at times I felt like I was moving the wheel back towards center instead of the motor giving me a centering spring effect.

The amount of vibration given off by the CSL wheel base leaves a bit to be desired, but in all fairness all the competing wheels at this price point I have the same complaint about. The one difference here on CSL Elite though was that I felt the vibration was a bit loud and at times felt choppy. The wheel base was slapping against my wheel plate on my cockpit, but that might be my fault for how I mounted it (I used two screws instead of 3).

Rev Light Functionality is Limited on Xbox One

The Rev light meter does not show revs or shift indicators on the Xbox One and only works on PC. The only time the rev light indicator works with your Xbox One is when you are setting your brake force on your pedal set. This is not an issue with the Fanatec wheel itself, but the Microsoft protocols in the Xbox don’t currently allow for that functionality.

If you are only racing on Xbox One, you will never need to hit the “mode” button. The wheel starts off in Xbox mode and you will never need to change it unless you are updating your drivers on the PC.

Mounting Options – To Hard Mount You May Have to Drill

I used the pre-drilled holes in the bottom of the wheelbase to mount it to a PlaySeat Evolution. I actually had to drill into the wheel plate in order to mount it correctly. I only drilled two holes (left and right), however there is a third hole I would recommend drilling which is the mounting hole in the front center. This will help you not get the slapping noise like I experienced.

Aside from hard mounting the CSL Elite comes with a table clamp. This will allow you to mount the wheel base to a table or desk. While I did clamp it to a table, I did not test it with racing. I would imagine like most table clamps it will require tightening between races especially given the strength of the force feedback from the motor.

My best advice is to always hard mount your wheel base if you have the ability to. Of course with this wheel though it may require you to drill. For me the holes didnt line up on any of my seats or wheel stands.

Compatibility

The CSL Elite Wheel Base works on both the Xbox One console and the PC. It is compatible with all of the Fanatec rims, pedal sets, shifters, and add-ons when you run it on a PC. If you are running it on an Xbox, you must have an Xbox One rim.

For shifters and handbrake options on the Xbox One, the functionality will be dependent upon the game. For example Forza Motorsport 6 does not have handbrake support, but DiRT Rally does.

Fanatec P1 Steering Wheel Rim Review

Specs

30 cm diameter, LED digital display, can store 5 different pre-sets, Xbox home button, Xbox buttons (A,B,X,Y, menu, settings, RSB, LSB, RT, LT), analog Stick D-pad, settings button, 2 large metal paddle shifters, rubber texturized grip, and quick release system.

Good Quality and Durability

The wheel is built very strong and has a nice metal center column. The buttons are labeled for Xbox and pertrude slightly off the metal. The LED display at the top of the rim has a plastic cover and in inlayed into the rim. The textured rubber rim isn’t very impressive, but it is servicable and does the job. The type of material they used will probably make your hands feel a bit sweaty after an hour of racing.

The analog stick d-pad moves nice, my only worry is that because it’s a stick and not a traditional d-pad you could easily catch your clothing on it and break it.

My biggest concerns around the quality and durability are with the quick release system. This is a simplified version of what Fanatec uses on their ClubSport V2. I found it required some extra strength to get the wheel rim on the wheel base…

I wasn’t sure if I pushed the wheel all the way on or perhaps maybe I pushed it too far. After some troubleshooting I tried tightening all 5 of the Allen screws on the center column and the 4 allen screws on the back of the wheel where it connects with the base. After that the P1 wheel rim started working and getting power. I spoke to Fanatec about this issue and the said it was an issue with a material they used in the pre-production models (like the one I received) and it is already resolved in the production wheel bases.

All in all for a quick release system it wasn’t very quick and requires some strength, but how often do you change your wheel rim though?…probably not too often anyway, so not that big of a deal.

Force Feedback Effects

The wheel rim is pretty light which means it reacts well to force feedback. You can feel some micro-vibrations in your hands through the rubber grip, but not as much as you would get with a padded leather rim.

Innovative Functionality with Custom Settings

I love the LED display and the ability to store 5 custom settings. I was able to save settings for both Assetto Corsa and Forza 6 without having to worry about writing any of my settings down. I found myself adjsuting the force feedback and brake force in the middle of races which was AWESOME. This is a great feature because you can make on the fly adjsutments without having to leave a race to change your game settings.

The paddle shifters are at the perfect distance from your fingers, maybe the best placement I have felt on a mid priced wheel. The one thing I don’t love is they dont make a nice click sound when engaged. I found myself missing some downshifts on corner entries when I had thought I had engaged the left paddle shifter.

The button placement is fine and accessible, but I much rather prefer higher button placement so you can move your thumbs horizonatlly to press a button while racing. For these you need to move your thumb horizontal and then down…this makes accessing the handbrake button difficult in certain types of turns.

Compatibility

The Fanatec P1 Xbox One Steering Wheel Rim is compatible on the Xbox One and PC. It will work on both the CSL Elite and ClubSport V2 wheelbase.

CSL Elite Pedals with Load Cell Brake Review

Specs

3 pedal set (gas, brake, clutch), 16 bit resolution throttle, 16 bit resolution clutch, 12 bit resolution load cell brake, Each pedal features its own unique resistance, pedal spacing is adjustable, removable rubber pedal covers, metal Titlon style pedal plates (when rubber cover is removed), all metal construction, adjustable load cell brake, optional Elastomer spacers for Load Cell (45Kg, 65kg, 85kg, 95kg), holes for hard mounting pedals, and 3 stickers you can add to the pedal face plates for additional grip.

Top Quality and Durability in Mid-Price Pedal Set

The pedal set is the shining star of the whole CSL Elite bundle. They are built very well, they have good weight to them, and the all metal construction gives me the utmost faith that these pedals will withstand my lead foot stomping on them.

At first I didn’t love the rubber grip pedal covers, but discovered they are nice when you are racing with a pair of socks on because they don’t make the pedals feel hard on the balls of your feet.

On the bottom of the pedal set there are a few grip pads to help get traction on your carpet if you are not hard mounting them. I easily peeled off the grip stickers and when I tested the pedals on the floor the grip stickers came off under duress.

Functionality – With a Great Modular Design

Fanatec used a modular design so that you could change the spacing between the pedals. There is no other pedal set for Xbox One that lets you do this. This is really advantageous for people who want to use a heel toe technique, you can slide your brake pedal right next to your throttle. Other sets like the Thrustmaster T3PA Pro’s only let you move the pedal face plate which is not the same.

Having 3 different resistances on the throttle, brake and clutch is fantastic. The clutch and throttle both have good travel distances, I only wish the throttle was a little bit stiffer. Unfortunately that is not adjustable. The clutch on the other hand has a nice resistance to it and really kicks back at you after it’s compressed.

The load cell is great and it is easy to change out the amount of pressure you like. You can mix and match the Elastomer spacers to get the brake pressure set to your preference. I changed out the spacers a few times to find my best brake pressure and each time only took me about 30 seconds to make a change.

Mounting was Easy

The pedal set had two holes in the bottom which mounted perfectly on my PlaySeat Evolution and didnt require any drilling. There are grips on the bottom for a carpet, but my best advice would be to hard mount them.

Compatibility

This pedal set is compatible on the Xbox One and PC. It will work on both the CSL Elite and ClubSport V2 wheelbase.

Fanatec Pedal Alternatves

Fanatec also offers a two pedal version of Elite pedals without a Load Cell Brake for $80. You could grab these pedals and then upgrade later or you could check out the Clubsport V3 Pedals which are a very nice higher end set.

How Does CSL Elite Bundle Perform as a Total Package

This is a solid racing setup for Xbox One. The driving experience is immersive and between a quality motor in the wheelbase and a very well done pedal set it’s worth taking a look at. More than anything I am impressed with the pedal set as a whole and the strength and smoothness of the force feedback motor. I don’t love the P1 rim, but I can live with it for the price.

• Multiple ports on wheel base (2 shifters, pedals, handbrake)
• Change wheel settings on the fly and save pre-sets

• Adjust and fine tune the resistance of the load cell
• Each pedal has unique resistance
• Adjust the space between the pedals

Cons:

• Hard mounting may require drilling into your rig
• Does not feature an auto centering spring for Xbox
• Action buttons should be located higher on the wheel rim
• Rev lights do not work on Xbox One (only PC)
• Pedal set is not invertable
• The Quick release system is not very quick

Fanatec CSL vs Thrustmaster TX

So lets set all things equal. The Fanatec CSL wheel base with the P1 rim costs $440 USD and the Thrustmaster TX wheel base with the 599XX Evo rim also costs $440 USD.

Which is better Fanatec CSL with the P1 rim or Thrustmaster TX with the 599XX Evo Rim?

What the CSL and TX Have in Common?

Both motors are brushless and encased in plastic, have smooth and strong force feedback, Xbox One and PC compatiblity, come standard with a table clamp, have pre-drilled holes for hard mounting, have quick release systems, have peripherals like rims, pedal sets, and shifters that can be added, both have 30 cm diameter wheel rims.

What are the Differences Between These Racing Wheels?

The Motors: The CSL wheelbase has slightly stronger and smoother single belt drive force feedback motor, but the TX has a better auto-centering mechanism for a more simulated feel when cornering and the force feedback is driven by a dual belt drive. The CSL required me to drill holes in my rig to hard mount, while the TX fit standard holes on all of my cockpits and wheel stands. The CSL-Elite is encased in thin inexpensive plastic, while the TX is encased in a thick solid plastic shell. When the CSL starts up it auto-calibrates very smoothly, when the TX starts up it auto calibrates in a very herky-jerky type of way.

The Rims:The P1 rim has larger paddle shifters which are the perfect distance from your fingers, but the 599XX rim paddle shifters while smaller offer a better click sound for engagement and the button layout is much more accessible. The P1 rim is made of texturized rubber and its very thick while the 599XX Evo is wrapped in hand stitched Alcantara from the Ferrari factory in Italy and has a nice soft padded touch. The P1 is light and delivers nice force feedback effects, but the 599XX Evo rim is even lighter and transfers micro-vibrations much better. The P1 has a bit of a toy look to it, while the 599XX Evo is a Ferrari replica rim and looks like its from a race car.

Which is Better for Racing on the X Box

All things considered I would say they are about equal with both having their good and bad points. In the scenario above Fanatec has the better wheel base, but Thrustmaster has the better rim. It comes down to what your preferences are, better force feedback or a more immersive feeling wheel. For me it’s a toss up as they both are really good driving experiences at the price point.

If I was to bring in the ClubSport V2 into this conversation it is better than both the Elite and TX, but of course it also 2X the price.

Fanatec CSL Racing Wheel Review Wrap Up

All together the Elite bundle is really good. I would say that given the price, quality, and durability it is on par with what I expected…not quite the ClubSport V2 and competitive with the Thrustmaster TX.

I am truly excited to see a high end sim racing company like Fanatec offing a mid-priced product for console racers. I think this bundle is worth a look especially if you have been eyeing a Fanatec product. This bundle would be more geared to someone who has the ability to hard mount it though as I wouldn’t trust the table clamp to keep a wheel this strong very stable for long periods of time.

First off if you are not familiar with Fanatec they have been making high end sim racing products for years. Most people fell in love with their Fanatec wheel on Forza Motorsport 3 and 4, but do to Microsoft licensing issues Fanatec wasn’t able to produce a racing wheel for the Xbox One until now. Currently they are offering this high end set which I review below and a more consumer friendly priced option called the CSL Elite Bundle.

Fanatec ClubSport Wheel and Pedals In Action on Xbox One

While in the video, they don’t use the Shifter, but it’s also included in the bundle. Let’s take a closer look at this package from Fanatec and see what this bundle has to offer.

The rim is made in brushed and anodized aluminum and covered in genuine leather with white stitching. 33 cm (12.9 inch) diameter like in a real race car. 6 screw holes for mounting on the universal hub.

It’s worth mentioning here there are various other Fanatec rims you can get, but the Forza rim is what comes standard on the bundle.

ClubSport Pedals V3 Specs

Vibration motor on gas pedal can be used to indicate rear wheel spin and oversteer, Pressure sensitive brake with 90 kg load cell sensor, Adjustable brake stiffness.

12 bit resolution on all axis, Alternative D-shape race plates, Pedal extension to adjust the angle of the pedal plate and change angle of the whole pedal arm. Parameters like deadzone and brake sensitivity can be adjusted on the fly through the tuning menu of the universal wheel hub.

New design of the gas pedal to allow a quick exchange of the springs, 2 different spring options are included for adjusting throttle stiffness, Optional damper kit for gas and brake. The Best Racing Setup Money Can Buy

Fanatec is absolutely the highest rated sim racing product on the market available for consoles. The force feedback is strong, smooth, quiet, and delivers the best simulated racing experience through a full size wheel rim, which you just don’t get in other brands.

Everything is adjustable to customize the setup to your racing needs from adjusting the distance between your paddle shifters to your rim, all the way to changing your force feedback settings while in the middle of a race, or even changing the resistance on the shifter.

Because the pedals come standard with a load cell, they produce an extremely realistic braking sensation created by the pressure you put on the pedal as opposed to how far you pushed the brake down. The pedals are super responsive and are tuned perfectly so that you can feel them pushing back up under your feet.

Multiple Platform Compatibility

Adding the universal hub makes this the most versatile racing setup on the market. This is the only setup that would allow you to play on Playstaion 4, Xbox One, and PC.

Bundle and Save

The Xbox One bundle saves you about $100 then buying each one pf these Fanatec products individually. If you wanted to save a few more bucks you could get the P1 rim, which has the Xbox buttons included so you can bypass purchasing the universal hub. That would knock about $150 off the price. You would be downgrading your quality of product though.

Mounting

This Wheelbase and pedal set will mount to almost all the popular wheel stands and rigs. My best recommendation for this particular setup would be the GT Omega RS9 or the Playseat Evolution. the Renn Sport cockpits offered by Fanatec are great, but the two cockpits I mentioned here are more affordable and solid quality products.

How Does it compare to the Thrustmaster TX or Logitech G920

The difference is night and day in terms of quality. Logitech is not even in the same league as this product from Fanatec, while the Thrustmaster as a little bit closer in performance, but not the same in quality.

Force Feedback Comparison

The force feedback of the Clubsport Wheelbase V2 is one of the truest translations to a real car you will experience. While they did design this with a belt driven mechanism it delivers equivalent torque as to what you would expect from a direct drive wheel. The Thrustmaster TX wheels also use a belt drive so the force feedback is somewhat similar, all though the Fantec generates more torque and for longer periods of time even as the motor gets warm. Logitech uses helical gearing which is not as strong and not as quiet as the other wheels.

Wheelbase Casing Comparison

The casing on the Clubsport Wheelbase is also a high end aluminum and all the metal parts that connect the wheel rim are brilliantly machined, while the Thrustmaster and Logitech wheelbases are encased in hard plastic protective shells with plastic components for the wheel rims.

Rim Size Comparison

The rim size on the Fanetec is 12.9 inches just like a real race car, while the Thrustmaster and Logitech wheels are 11 inches. Thrustmaster does offer an add-on rim the 599XX Evo rim which is just over 12 inches and wrapped in Alcantara. While that add-on rim is one of my favorites, this Forza rim on the Fanatec is phenomenal.

Pedal Comparison

One of the best places you can see measure quality difference is in the pedals. the Logitech G920 has 8 bit resolution pedals, Thrustmaster TX has 10 bit resolution pedals, and The Fanatec has 12 bit resolution pedals. The higher the resolution the better the pedals translate your inputs. You also have significantly more control of your experience with pedal adjustments including angles and pedal stiffness on all pedals.

Now don’t get me wrong I absolutely love my Thrustmaster and Logitech wheels, but the Fanatec package is next level racing. It’s simply a better product in every aspect and Fanatec is justified in charging a price more than double the Thrustmaster and Logitech options.

Who is The Fanatec Xbox One Bundle For

While I love this wheel, the price point makes it super exclusive and not for everybody. If you plan on racing on multiple platforms PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, then honestly this product even at this price is the best value. You can simply buy one bundle and it literally would work on any platform you want to play with and you don’t need extra parts or adapters.

If you only plan to race on just Xbox or just PlayStation, I honestly think there are more affordable options like the TX or the 920 that will make you just as happy.

Fanatec Racing Wheel for Xbox One – Wrap Up

If you are an Xbox One racer in my opinion the price is not worth it. I am telling you though knowing full well this is the best wheel you can get. I just can’t justify paying more for my wheel and pedal set than I did for my entire console. The Fanatec Wheel for The Xbox One with a mid range cockpit is gonna cost you $2,000 at a minimum. You can get the Thrustmaster TX leather with a mid priced cockpit for $1,000

I think the Thrustmaster TX is the best choice for Xbox because it performs great and leaves room in your budget for a racing seat. It simply is the best VALUE if you are only playing racing games on your Xbox One and that’s what makes it my most recommended steering wheel.

It’s the price of the Fanatec wheel that’s the only thing that keeps me from rating this 5 stars. It’s not priced for console racers!

Now with all that being said, if you are a hardcore racer and you want to get the top of the line racing wheel than this is for you. You will not only be the envy of all your friends, but this setup is gonna last you a long time and work on PC, Xbox One, and PS4. I would go for the full bundle and skip out exchanging for the P1 rim. Honestly if you are already spending this kind of money, you might as well go all in!

In this review we’ll discuss the ART Racing Cockpit RS6, one of my favorite racing seats to drive in!

High Quality Sim Racing Rig

The quality of the materials is very impressive with the chair being constructed from steel and wrapped in synthetic leather. It has plenty of padding to give comfort for long hours of driving. The rest of the rig including the seat bracket is constructed of alloy steel. The only part of the frame that isn’t steel is the pedal plate, which is a piece of MDF board.

The stitching on the seat is very tight and beautifully done. Even the GT Omega logo at the top the chair looks really sharp.

The bucket style seat feels like sitting in a race car and it puts your body in a perfect racing position. Sitting in the chair feels very natural and has a glow of quality to it. It also has some air ventilation built in so you dont get to hot.

Overall the RS6 has a good weight, coming in 89 lbs (39 kg). In my opinion heavier rigs are much nicer than lighter rigs because of the abuse they take during hundreds of hours of sim racing and people getting in and out of the chair.

Out of the box the RS6 takes an hour and a half to put together and has instructions in Chinese with pictures. In the box you get the GT Omega ART Racing Chassis Frame, the RS6 racing chair (Fully reclinable with sliders), Gear Shift Mount, and all the assembly tools required. Not the easiest racing seat to put together, which is pretty typical for GT Omega.

Specs

Length: 48 – 52 inches, Width: 21 inches (25 inches with gear mount installed), Steering wheel plate height: 21.5 inches up to 27.5 inches, Seat heights: 42 inches.

The Most Adjustable Racing Cockpit on the Market

The ART RS6 is possible the most adjustable racing cockpit I have ever seen. This chair allows you to adjust the height of the wheel platform, the angle of the pedal plate, and even the height of the shifter. Even more you can adjust the length of the frame for more or less leg room and even raise or lower the seat position for your height. All of this adjustablity while not crowding your legs underneath the wheel plate.

If that wasn’t enough adjustments, it comes with seat sliders and the back of the chair reclines to 180 degrees. This makes the RS6 rig one of the best seats to get if you are over 6 feet tall and yet it’s still perfect for a shorter person.

Comfort for Long Hours of Racing

Comfort is standard for GT Omega and the RS6 is no exception. You can sit in this sim racing cockpit for hours and not feel like your back or your knees hurt. The chair is very well padded and because of all of the adjustments you can make to the frame to fit your body type its completely customizable to your needs.

Because the rig was designed without a center column like some other sim racing cockpits have, there is plenty of leg room. The advantage of not having a center column is that you have nothing to hinder your feet from accessing the pedals. I also think that the wheel plate height gives plenty of room so that the top of your knees arn’t rubbing up against the steel plate.

This is the seat I typically recommend to people who have a bad back and want a comfortable racing seat. The seat itself is really comfortable, but it is all of the adjustability that makes it suited for someone with a bad back. You can really position the seat to maximize your comfort.

Also not having a center column makes your feet fall more naturally on the pedals so you dont have to turn your left foot in to access your brake…that takes pressure off your knees as well.

Simulated Racing Chair With Options

While I am an Xbox console racer and the RS6 basic setup meets my needs, there are multiple versions of the chair that have all the bells and whistles. For example the RS6 Pro come with a drink holder, rear speaker mounts, swiveling keyboard tray, and triple monitor stands. Now that stuff isn’t for everybody, but if you are looking for the best PC sim racing cockpit, the RS6 Pro is AWESOME!

Feels Like A Race Car

I tested out the RS6 sim rig with the Thrustmaster TX, T3PA Pro Pedals, and the TH8A shifter. Everything hooked up easy because the pre-drilled holes lined up perfect. It was great to slide the seat back, because I am 6’1 and need a bit more leg room than most. The one thing that I really liked was the ability to raise the height on my shifter…thats not an option you get with Playseat or OpenWheeler brands.

The MDF board they used for the pedal plate is the one thing I think they could have chosen a better material for. It functions fine, but seems like a week piece of wood.

Racing felt like being in a real car. The way the frame is designed with the side bars and angle of the pedal plate, it almost tricks your brain into thinking your legs are enclosed in a real car chassis.

If you are the type that likes to lean your body into turns, the setup will stay nice and stable and never move or rock around.

Drawbacks Of The GT Omega ART RS6 SIm Racing Cockpit

There are a handful of things that I don’t love regarding this seat. First as I mentioned already I don’y love the MDF board they used for the pedal plate…its fine and its functional, but I wish it was metal. Second when you have the seat adjust for heights under 5’8ish the pedal board needs to slide over a metal bar on the frame. This causes the pedal plate to move up and down as you race, because the bar on the frame secures the pedal board down.

You can actually work around this by getting some zip ties to secure you pedal board down, but I do find this to be a flaw in the design.

It’s worth noting that it is not able to be folded up and put away. You can shorten the frame and lean the back forward, but it still takes up a lot of room. It would be fine to slide into a walk in closet temporarily if you needed to get it out of the way, but it’s not ideal. It’s pretty heavy so it’s not easy to drag around your house and move to a different room.

Also worth noting if you plan on putting this on a wood floor you can also add on a GT Omega carpet to go under the frame to protect your floor from getting scratched.

GT Omega ART Sim Cockpit Review – Wrap Up

I love this chair for the GT bucket seat, the comfort, and the adjustability. If you are having friends over to race the sliders are so fantastic because you can quickly adjust for people of varying heights. The alloy steel frame is robust and feels sturdy. The frame also has square shaped tubing, (not rounded), which if you decide to make your own customizations to this seat it’s much easier.

The design lends itself to durability and stability under the most intense sim racing circumstances, like heavy force feedback and the pulling and bending that you unconsciously put on the frame while you are racing.

I would describe this seat as a mid-priced seat just above an entry level racing seat, but not quite a pro racing chassis.

The standard package includes the racing wheel and a 2 pedal set (gas and brake). It does have the ability for adding on some components in the Thrustmaster eco-system and there is also a Pro version available which features a 3 pedals set.

Thrustmaster Steering Wheels for Xbox One

If you are not familiar with Thrustmaster they have been making wheels for consoles and PC’s for a long time. They have a reputation for making high quality mid priced driving wheels. The TMX is not their first offering on the Xbox One, but it is their first at this price.

The TMX steering wheel’s price point puts it just below the Thrustmaster 458 Italia edition ($300) and just above the Thrustmaster 458 Spider ($100). It is Thrustmaster’s answer to the T150, a similar product that is made for PS4.

Lets a take a hard look at the TMX and see what Thrustmaster has to offer…

TMX Force Feedback Racing Wheel Specs

270 to 900 degrees of rotation adjustable on the fly, force feedback, 12 action buttons, d-pad, 2 5 inch brushed metal paddle shifters, hybrid belt-pulley and gears system, metal ball-bearing axle, 11″/28 cm in diameter, rubber grips on the rim, Xbox One certified embedded software: the racing wheel is automatically recognized by the Xbox One, Pedals with wide foot rest, each pedal’s angle of inclination can be adjusted to 3 positions, brake pedal features progressive resistance.

A Great Racing Experience

When I received this wheel I tested it mounted to a Playseat Evolution using the TMX Mounting Adapter and I also tried it with a Ultimate WheelStand…I was SERIOUSLY surprised for the price how good this wheel feels in games like Forza 6, DiRT Rally and Project Cars. Its worth noting that the TMX does not normally mount to a cockpit, you need a mounting adapter.

Force Feedback Engine is Quality

The force feedback is smooth, strong (but not over powering), quiet, and does a good job of translating the feel of the road. It reacted great to my driving inputs and had a nice pull back as I was drifting through corners.

For a belt and pulley mechanism this is a big upgrade from the bungee cord mechanism inside the Thrustmaster Spider. It’s not quiet as strong as the TX, but it delivers a great simulated racing feel that is immersive!

The Wheel Rim Center Column is Well Designed

The rim on the TMX is similar to other rims Thrustmaster has designed and because of that it has a nice layout with all of your buttons easy to reach while racing.

A good button layout is helpful because in most games you will need to use your right thumb while driving to hit the “A” button for the handbrake. For example in DiRT Rally you need to use the handbrake a lot and you will be thankful you can hit the button without letting go of the rim. You simply can reach over with your thumb and hit the button while you steer.

I don’t love the “TM” emblem or colored buttons on the center column, but I can live with not loving the aesthetics because what it lacks in looks it makes up for in performance and price.

I also am a big proponent of the D-pad on the center column, which makes navigating menus much easier. The paddle shifters are a comfortable distance from the rim, they move with the rim as you turn, and they make a nice click sound and spring back into place when they are engaged.

The Rubber on the Steering Wheel Rim is Grippy

The rim has a rubber grip on it which helps your hands hold the wheel through the force feedback.

I wish they covered the whole wheel with the rubber that they have at the 9 and 3 positions, but its still pretty good. For me since I drive with the TH8A shifter I normally one hand the wheel at the 12 O’clock position in games like Forza. When using the paddle shifter your hands are right on the rubber and its got a nice feel in your hands. I actually like this rim better than the stock rim on the TX Italia Edition although that is an overall better wheel.

It Comes Standard With a Progressive Brake

If you have never raced with a wheel and pedal set before, then you perhaps can’t appreciate what it means to have a progressive brake. A progressive brake simulates the feel of real braking…the further you push the brake down in distance the harder it gets to push down.

The progressive brake does a good job of simulating real brake pressure…not quite as good as brake mod on higher end pedals, but it gets the job done.

The pedals are responsive and they offer a nice push back under your feet. I didn’t try to adjust the pedal angles at all, but doing so looks to be really easy.

The Throttle pedal throw distance is a little bit long for my taste, but that is a normal complaint for me with all the Thrustmaster pedal sets. Whats cool about the TMX though is you can add on an upgraded Thrustmaster 3 pedal set separately. I hooked up the T3PA wide pedal set and it really took the TMX to the next level.

While I don’t immediately love the plastic laden pedal set on the TMX, they are serviceable without upgrading and the fact that they have a progressive brake makes me forgive them alot. Considering the price point these pedals are as good as can be expected.

TMX Pro Version vs Standard Version

The difference between the TMX standard version and the Pro version is the pedal set. Everything else hardware wide is exactly the same. In the TMX Pro version you get a 3 pedal set included instead of the standard 2 pedal set. The 3 pedal set is called the T3PA Wide pedal set which features a gas, brake, and clutch pedal.

The T3PA wide pedal set is a really nice addition not only because of the clutch, but because it adds on adjustable metal face plates and an adjustable conical brake module. These three features on the TMX Pro add a deeper level of immersion and allow you to customize your racing experience to your style.

The only drawbacks to the T3PA pedals are that they are not invertable like the T3PA Pro Pedals. Other than that, they are a huge upgrade over the TMX standard plastic pedals.

Does a 3 pedal Set Really Make A Difference?

Yes. The difference is enormous. Using the clutch pedal for most car types will help you accelerate quicker and stay in cars power band for longer. Additionally since you can adjust the brake mod on the T3PA’s, you can set it to a point right before your car locks the brakes. Doing this will help prevent lock up and help you brake later and more confidently into corner entries. I find this to be really helpful n games like Forza and Project Cars.

For a game like Dirt Rally, you can forego the clutch pedal and instead configure the pedal to be your hand brake. This makes drifting around sharp corners easier then trying to press down a button on the steering wheel while you are turning.

The Thrustmaster TMX is A Great Sim Racing Entry Level Wheel

One thing I like most about the Thrustmaster TMX wheel is it’s ability to use the eco-system from Thrustmaster. The TMX allows you to add on the TH8A shifter, and a 3 pedal set (T3PA Wide Pedals or T3PA Pro Pedals). This is something that you don’t get with the 458 Spider. This makes the TMX a really flexible solution for racers on a budget. You can always get the TMX now and then add on the components as your money allows. If you get the TMX Pro version then the T3PA wide set will come with it.

The TMX driving wheel however does not allow you to change out the actual wheel rim like the Thrustmaster TX. The TMX wheel rim is permanently attached and does not include the Thrustmaster Quick Release System. If you were looking for the ability to change rims, you would need to look at other options like the TX.

TMX Mounting Options

The TMX comes standard with a table clamp for mounting on a desk or table. There are wheel stands like, the Wheel Stand Pro, that also can mount a table clamp wheel.

Mounting Adapter for Cockpits

The wheel doesn’t naturally mount to cockpits or high end wheel stands, but there is a simple adapter you can get for like $25 that allows you to hard mount this wheel. The simple adapter screws into the bottom where the table clamp normally goes and then all of the standard Thrustmaster pre drilled holes will line up on your wheel mounting plate. Hooking up the adapter is super easy and is a great solution for mounting.

Multiple Compatibility – Xbox One and PC

Thrustmaster wheels always offer a great value by making their products have multiple compatibility. This racing wheel setup will work for both Xbox One and PC (Windows 10/8/7/Vista) and all racing games that support steering wheels. The Microsoft embedded software makes the wheel natively compatible in the Xbox One console’s menus.

My Best TMX Setup Recommendation

If you are in the market for a Thrustmaster steering wheel then chances are you are looking for a nice racing experience, more than a casual racer, but something that isn’t going to make you broke. The TMX is your best option for about $200.

My best recommendation for a starting set up would be the Thrustmaster TMX Pro Version . That will get you the wheel and a solid 3 pedal set (gas, brake, clutch) for just under $300. This would set you up with a decent rim, a good performing motor, and a 3 pedal set that includes a conical brake mod. You can find deals on Amazon to get this set for around $250 if you find the right deal.

Thrustmaster TMX Racing Wheel Review – Wrap Up

I am really impressed with the TMX. The build quality and the racing experience are impossible to beat at the price point.

This Thrustmaster wheel is significantly better than the 458 Spider because of its adjustable rotation, true force feedback, and ability to utilize the Thrustmaster eco-system. I actually think the motor is even better than the Logitech G920 which is a mid price wheel and performs a bit clunky due to its helical gearing. Ideally you can spend $200 now and then upgrade your pedals and shifter later, for a more immersive experience.

The TMX is no slouch when it comes to a good driving experience and I would highly recommend this as an entry level sim racing wheel for the Xbox One or PC. If you have the budget go for the TMX Pro upgrade to add the 3 pedal set. The 3 pedals and the conical brake mod make a hug difference in immersion and lap times.

The seat features a fully collapsible frame that can be folded up and put into a storage room or even under a bed when not in use. It has a wheel support plate that swings up and down so you can get in and out of the chair. The pedals connect to the base on two padded bars that keep them securely in place.

Made of High Quality Materials and Has a Brilliant Design

What is most impressive about this simple little seat is the materials and the smartly engineered design. the seat farme is made out of powder coated metal tubing and the seat material is made out of nicely stitched and well padded alcantara suede.

The design is kind of like a sim racing lawn chair, but with lots of adjustability. It doesn’t look like much but it incredibly stable even under aggressive sim driving. When folded up in measures 49 inches tall, 29.5 inches wide, and 11 inches deep. When setup in driving position it is 53 inches tall x 21 inches wide, and 38 inches deep. Also this racing seat ONLY weighs 20 pounds and is incredibly easy to assemble and fold up!

Just look how thin this get folded up…thats pretty awesome for a racing chair!

Another impressive feature of this racing seat is that it can accommodate a driver between 4 feet and 7 feet tall. There are many other seat solutions on the market that can do that.

How Does It Adjust

On the side of the seat there are straps that can be adjusted. This can move the seat from a Nascar like driving position back to a F1 style position. The wheel angle adjusts via a knob behind the wheel plate and the pedals, while don’t have angle adjustment are able to be adjusted towards and away from the seat.

What Wheel and Pedal Brands is it Compatible With

The Playseat Challenge can accommodate most of the popular wheels and pedals. The wheel plate has pre-drilled holes and the pedal plate has a Velcro strap that lock any set of pedals into place. I tested it with the Thrustmaster TX and T3PA Pedals and no issues at all.

This is a popular racing seat choice amongst Thrustmaster and Logitech wheel owners.

Who Should Buy The Playseat Challenge

This seat would work best for a racer on a budget or someone short on space. It is priced fair to the market, because its a bit more expensive than a wheel stand, but a bit less expensive than a full racing cockpit.

If you are looking for an entry level sim racing solution the Playseat Challenge is a great option. I wouldn’t recommend this to a hardcore sim racer, but for anyone racing on a console this is a nice choice.

A Simple Racing Setup

If I was looking to a simple racing setup for the Xbox One designed around the Playseat Challenge, I think the Logitech G920 is a great choice to go with this seat.

That would bring your total cost to about $600 and get you a foldable seat, a racing wheel and a 3 pedal set.

If you wanted to a little less expensive my next best suggestion is the Thrustmaster TMX racing wheel and the Challenge seat would cost about $450

Note: This seat will not allow you to add a shifter.

Don’t Judge This Racing Seat By the Way It Looks

At first glance, I thought this was an overpriced crappy racing seat, but then I started racing with it. Honestly my mind was kind of blown!

The seat is super comfortable even for extended hours of racing. I also was surprised as just how stable the frame was built. Once you get in it, there is very little wobble. Someone over a Playseat did came up with a genius design for this chair. I am 6’2 and I dont fit comfortably in all racing seats, but this seat had great adjustment capabilities for me.

This seat is surprisingly awesome given the price and storage ability. If you have small apartment then to me this is hands down one of the best solutions. I would certainly consider this is lieu of a wheel stand, but not a full cockpit if you can afford one.

That was until of course I tried the Astro Gaming A40 TR Headphones for Xbox One. This headset is the most current offering for x box console owners and they perform phenomenally in almost every single aspect.

At a price point around $250 you would expect them too, but to be honest that is a fair priced headset. They are a significantly improved version from the previous A40’s Astro put out for Xbox.

The A40 TR’s don’t seem to have any of the issues that the previous version experienced. Now the audio is crisp and clear through the dolby enabled speakers and the live chat. Drop outs won’t occur on this set of headphones and you can even use them semi-wirelessly if you have them plugged into your controller via the stereo adapter. The only downside to hooking them up to the controller is that you loose the surround sound effect that is driven by plugging them into the MixAmp Pro TR that they come packaged with. They will still produce high quality audio in stereo via the controller, but not surround sound.

The MixAmp Pro TR Puts Your Xbox One In Surround Sound

Using the MixAmp is the best solution and it is plug in and play. The one downside to it is that the cable is a little bit short compared to previous models of the MixAmp. This might end uo being an issue if you play games on your Xbox and sit far away from your television.

The only real con of the MixAmp pro though from a technical perspective is that it will only be compatible with the Xbox One and Xbox One S. If you have a PS3 or PS4, you would need to shell out more money for a new MixAmp.

So while it performs great it’s not the best for someone looking for a multi-platform solution.

Best Headphones For Xbox One and Xbox One S

Every aspect of this headset is rock solid! They are constructed well and are a really impressive looking set of cans. The set really hugs your head nice and snug, but doesn’t squeeze the life out of your face and the ear pieces have a nice high end cushiony feel that will make hours of wearing them feel comfortable. These are by far the best headphones for Xbox 1 and are one of my favorite accessories for my console.

A40 TR Headset Add On Mods

Another cool aspect of the A-40 is the add on mod kit you can get which turns them from open to closed back. You can pick up the mod for about $60 and it lets you switch the pad on the headband and the ear pieces for a thicker faux leather version. the advantage you get with this is that it eliminates excess noise in the room. Even with the mod kit on, the headphones remain comfortable. the mod kit is not a must own, but i would recommend it if you are normally playing games in a noisy environment.

There is also a mic that comes with the mod kit. It is uni-directional which means it will only pick up audio from directly in front of it. this also helps eliminate extra room noise coming through on your live chat microphone.

My Final Opinion on The A40TR Headset

This set of headphones from Astro Gaming is among the best audio solutions you can get as a gamer. They do a great job of simulating surround sound in both movies and games while also producing a very clean sounding chat mic.

The MixAmp Pro TR is perfect not just for audiophiles but for live streamers who want lag-free and interference free operation. The MixAmp allows you to control every input and output so that you can fine tune everything to your specific recording setup. If you are in the market for a headset this is the pair to get.

The WD My Passport X drive for Xbox One is slightly smaller than the 2TB Xbox One drive by Seagate, but it not as slim. Functionality wise, these two drives are very similar though.

The My Passport X game drive will allow you to free up alot of space on your Xbox internal drive by transferring your games over. An added benefit is that games on you WD external drive will actually load a few seconds faster. This drive is also portable so it’s easy to unplug and bring your games over to your friends houses.

The WD My Passport X Drive is Easy To Install

The Western Digital drive has plug-and-play functionality and fast power up.

When you first install it you will need to walk through the formatting process before you can store anything on it.

Also worth noting, when you hook up the drive you will have 1.8 TB of free space and not 2 TB. This is common on all external drives because there are some system files that take up a little bit of space.

Moving Games From Your Hard Drive to the WD is Easy

If you have games on your internal drive taht you want to shift over to the WD My Passport X drive its a really simple process. You just need to have your WD drive plugged in, go to MANAGE GAMES, and then select MOVE.

After that you just select the WD My Passport X Drive and then the selected games will automatically move from your internal hard drive onto your external drive.

You can store music, videos, or games on your WD drive. If you have a 2TB drive it will hold about 50 games total depending on the size of the games of course.

Note: Large games take a little while to move. Don’t expect instant results.

Portable

It’s super easy to unplug your drive and take your game library with you to their house. To hook it up to another Xbox you just need to hook it up to the USB drive and sign in. After you sign in, you can access the drive.

WD My Passport X 2TB Drive Review – Wrap Up

This drive is extremely well received at Amazon with 5 stars and over 200 reviews. While I chose to purchase the Seagate 2TB Game drive, I heavily considered this WD drive.

From all of my research which included videos, reading articles, and consumer reviews from what I can tell the Western Digital Drive is a solid product and people love it. People consider this drive to be a lifesaver and you will be hard pressed to find any negative info about it.

If you were in the market for an external hard drive the WD My Passport X is a great option and is on par with it’s main competitor the Seagate Game Drive.

The best part about the Seagate 2TB Game Drive, or any external hard drive, is that you can free up considerable space on your Xbox, reduce the amount of load times for games (because the RPM’s of the drive are faster than the Xbox), and you can take your external drive with you to a friends house.

The Seagate Drive is Easy To Install

The Seagate External Drive has plug-and-play capability offers you instantaneous power up. Your Xbox will automatically detect your drive and walks you through the setup process. It only takes a few minutes.

Why I Bought The Seagate Game Drive

At the time my internal Xbox hard drive was at about 65% capacity…mostly filled with huge games like Forza 5, Forza 6, and Project Cars. I needed something to fee up some space. I did research and was considering the Seagate drive and the WD 2TB My Passport X for Xbox One Portable External Hard Drive.

Both drives looked promising and had all 5 Star reviews on Amazon…so to be honest I picked the Seagate because it was exclusively made for the Xbox and it had over 400 5 star reviews. Overall I am extremely happy with it, it works perfectly as advertised, and I have freed up so much space on my internal Xbox drive.

It did make my games load significantly faster also. For example, normally Forza 6 takes roughly 25 seconds to load a race, now a race loads in about 15 seconds or so when I play the game directly from the Seagate drive.

There are other options for larger space if you need it. I ended up getting the 2TB drive, but there is also a 4TB version.

This mod transforms your brake pedal on your pedal set from a travel sensitive potentiometer-based pedal to a force sensitive based load cell pedal.

After your first few laps of getting used to a realistic feeling race car brake, you will notice faster lap times, shortened braking distance, and MUCH less locking up.

The load cell kit was designed to replicate the pedal travel and resistance of Formula 1, Daytona Prototypes, Formula Fords and spec Miata braking systems.

This mod takes about 40 minutes to install if you already own a pair of T3PA Pro pedals…and if you don’t own a pair you can buy it installed and have Ricmotech do it for you.

RicmoTech Load Cell Brake Video Review

I bought my T3PA Pro pedals from Ricmotech and had them install it, but as you can hear from the guys in the video above, the install is quick and painless.

This mod makes every bit of difference in lap time and will revolutionize the way you brake. I didn’t even realize how inefficient my braking technique was until I upgraded to the load cell.

By adding the load cell mod, you are switching from a system that measures your braking power by how far you have pushed the pedal to a system that measures how hard you have pushed the pedal. It feels much more natural to brake and you will notice so much more consistency in your braking.

The mod gets installed directly underneath your brake pedal and eliminates the need for the conical rubber brake mod. From the outside of the pedals though you really can’t even tell there is a mod installed. The brake pedal to the right has the load cell mod installed and you can see the name Ricmotech underneath the pedal.

Here are the perks of the Ricmotech Load Cell Brake Mod:

• Works with T3PA Pro Pedals and T500 pedals
• Ricmotech will install it for free if you buy the T3PA pedals through them
• Load cell pressure WAY better than travel distance brake
• Feels just like a race car brake

The two drawbacks for me on the Ricmotech Load Cell is that it is a bit pricey and even the softest spring is pretty stiff. The stiffness takes a few laps to get used to for sure, especially after using a travel sensitive brake. Once you get used to it, you will come to appreciate the stiffness if the brake. For me personally I find that I almost never lock up the brakes anymore.

You should also be aware that installing this brake mod will void the warranty on your Thrustmaster pedals.

Who Should Buy The Ricmotech Load Cell Brake

If you already own a pair of T3PA Pro pedals or are in the market to buy T3PA Pro pedals this mod makes a huge difference.

For those that own the pedals, you can just buy the load cell and install it yourself. Installation is quick and easy with very clear instructions from Ricmotech. You can also choose to load a soft or stiff bushing when you set them up on your own.

If you are in the market for buying T3PA Pro’s then it’s easier to buy them from Ricmotech with the load cell installed.

This is what I did. I just figured if if the installation is FREE than why not just buy the pedals and let Ricmotech setup the load cell for me. Ricmotech will ask you which bushing you would like installed when you place your order.

Ricmotech Customer Service

I need to call this out specifically because I was VERY IMPRESSED with the customer service I received from Ricmotech. First they were quick to answer a question I asked prior to purchasing the T3PA’s with the load cell installed. I wanted to know if I could request to have them set the pedals up with the sift spring installed (to which they said yes).

Secondly after I purchased them, I had to send them back because there was an issue with the clutch after 30 days. Ricmotech responded to me within 30 minutes of my email, offered me trouble shooting advice, and when I couldn’t resolve, they fixed them for me. I couldn’t have been happier.

I was floored by their service and response time. it is the exact reason I will be a repeat Ricmotech customer!!!

Ricmotech Load Cell Brake Mod Review Wrap Up

This pedals will make a HUGE difference braking. I have played several games with them like DiRT Rally, Forza 6, Project Cars, and Drive club and each game they improved my times. They are a little on the pricey side, but if you own any Thrustmaster stuff then this is a worthwhile addition.

As far as functionality goes I do wish it was a little less stiff, but the trade-off of more efficient braking and a much more race car like feel, it’s hard to complain.
